Black Rat cycle 2022
On Sunday 22nd May we will be taking a group of members and friends to take part in the Black Rat cycle event. There are four routes available of varying lengths and difficulties, so you will be able to take part no matter your level of cycling experience.
There is more information about the rides below.
Riders taking part in the Granfondo route will enjoy a fabulous ride of 184km on mainly quiet roads in the Wye Valley, Monmouthshire, Hay on Wye and will climb Gospel Pass, the highest road in Wales.
Mediofondo riders will follow many of the same roads as the Granfondo riders but will miss out on the Hay on Wye – Gospel Pass loop and will instead face the challenging road from Rockfield to Abergavenny after leaving Monmouth. The Mediofondo is still an effort at 120km so shouldn’t be written off as an easy option.
The route for the Piccolofondo ride takes riders over the Severn Bridge and along beautiful quiet roads in the Wye Valley before descending to Monmouth. After leaving Monmouth, you will enjoy the scenic lanes around Dingestow and Llansoy before climbing back up to Devauden on your way home. The Piccolofondo route this year will be 90km.
We understand that some of you might not want a hilly 90km ride but would still like to take part in the sportive. We have therefore created a “Minifondo” route which is 45km long and follows the Piccolofondo route until Devauden on the outward journey. Here you will be able to turn off and head back to the finish without needing to ride to Monmouth and do the extra climbing or distance involved. Details can be found on the Piccolofondo page of the site.
